On launching one product that scales to 10k.. so true if you’re doing this all alone. It can be so overwhelming! I’ve decided to collab with others on products & community because I enjoy building with others. Here’a to us all hitting 30k/month!

Totally feel you, scaling solo can be a lot! Curious, what products are you and your collaborators building?

It's ever-evolving based on customer validation/feedback but I'm focused on building an ecosystem very similar to the one you posted about actually.

Small digital products to start, custom AI builds, just launched a community for women in AI, and will likely launch a saas or cohort style program when the time is right. Need to build more momentum with what I have right now first.

How about you? What's your focus right now?

I also have similar aspirations and don't quite know how to get there. This post is super informative! What micro-SaaS ideas do you have in mind?

Expand full comment
Jenny Ouyang's avatar

Thanks so much, Claudia! I’m really glad it helped.

I don’t plan micro-SaaS ahead, they usually come from problems I run into myself, things like colorblindness, image searching and text generating.

I treat them more as learning projects than money-makers, which helps me stay curious without pressure.

I was about to comment similarly. I have actually started but I don't want to sell courses, i am also worried about what product to sell, and not having to deal with subscriptions, but that's almost impossible. Looking in the comments for any micro-saas ideas too.

You're not alone, Ami, thank you! Micro-SaaS ideas are everywhere; the key is finding one that fits your expertise. I offer my products through a paid newsletter, so it’s more like a product subscription than just content.

Here is the exact post I wrote about going paid if you are curious about details: https://jennyouyang.substack.com/p/going-paid-now-but-you-can-still-read-for-free?r=4o2hk2

This makes a lot of sense, I think I have to ideate a product and execute. maybe you can share prompts that can givge valuable guidelines, no matter how broad.

I understand that this still depends on the individual and in my case data analysis and data science but I'm always open to learning.

thanks Jenny

I love this post Jenny!

I feel like there's so much possibilities now and there's no better time to build solo than today.

In the process of this, but excited to push this through!

Thank you, Wyndo! I completely agree, this really feels like the best and most fun time to build.

So many opportunities to follow your curiosity, and the barrier to creating something is lower than ever.

Today I subscribe to you. Free of course. You can call me Scrouge McDuck it’s okay.

You should ask the AI what marketing strategy can entail. Regarding the product do it with secure coding in place.

I was also super impressed by the Execution Play-by-play section, it’s rare to see such a clear, actionable breakdown! I specialize in automation for marketing, and what’s really exciting right now is how AI opens up new ways to combine automation with highly personalized use cases. The overlap between automation + AI is exploding, with personalized automations becoming more powerful and accessible. I’m actually planning to do a series on n8n over on my Substack, hopefully I can learn even more from you along the way

Jenny Ouyang's avatar

Yes! n8n is huge right now, I’m constantly amazed by what’s possible with it, especially when paired with AI. The blend of automation and personalization is such an exciting space to play in. Your Substack series sounds awesome, I’d love to follow along and trade learnings as we go!

Congrats on the journey so far Jenny!

Just came here to say that when it suggested Replit and Firebase that you don’t absolutely need to check those out.

You had mentioned v0 which is a great alternative.

My stack these days would be a front end vibe-code tool (v0 or lovable), Cursor for updates/tweaks, Supabase for the authentication and database.

All to say, tools change so often and there are a lot of good ones. If you have a good workflow keep going

Thanks so much! Totally agree, tools come and go, and there are so many good ones out there. I’m really liking lovable and cursor so far, and your stack sounds super solid. Appreciate the encouragement, sticking to what works and iterating as we go!

Want to say that o3 is incredibly expensive as well as overrated. Nevertheless, the plan is solid. Not some pipe dream like that guy who went viral on Twitter/X last year asking GPT-4 how to make $1k online.

Also, n8n is truly a game changer and they recently added an AI agent node for the workflows. Too much good stuff there and too little time to learn it.

Although I have a SaaS idea in the development process, I'm now more on the "collab and contribute" part instead of the "solo builder" one.

Toast to both of us making it!

Jenny Ouyang's avatar

Thank you for the thoughtful comment Juan!

Totally get you on o3, it definitely feels overpriced and overhyped, especially for folks like you who already know how to get the most out of any decent AI model. For me, the biggest draw is that all-in-one, nearly agentic workflow, but honestly, with a solid plan, we could build something similar ourselves.

I really appreciate n8n being open-source, being able to tweak and self-host is a huge plus. But sounds like you’ve gone deeper into it than I have. What’s that game-changing stuff you’re seeing lately? Especially curious how it stacks up against Make or Zapier in real-world use.

As for building vs. collaborating, either path is valid, and we probably all shift between the two. I’m personally leaning into solo building for now, but I do feel the pull toward collab… just figuring I need to level up my presence and credibility a bit more first.

And yes, cheers to both of us making it!

Expand full comment
Juan Gonzalez's avatar

Haha, "gone deeper" is a little too much. I've barely scratched the surface 😅

I've seen a couple of folks building entire "assistant" workflows. It blows Zapier out of the water. Make, on the other hand, is a worthy contender although it's more for non-technical folks.

I agree with you on those 2 paths being on and off from time to time. I guess it's a balance. Too much being out there with nothing to show is bad. But building great stuff and having no one that notices it can be even worse.

Maybe at some point we'll find we're in a similar path :)
